Our Journey: A History of Growth and Excellence

At Blouberg International School, our story is one of continuous evolution. What began as a small, local initiative has blossomed into a premier international educational hub. From our humble Montessori roots to our status as a world-class Cambridge centre, every milestone reflects our commitment to providing a nurturing and academically rigorous environment for our students.

The Foundation Years (2002 – 2007)

2002: Humble Beginnings – The story of Blouberg International School began in 2002 with the founding of The Beach House Montessori. Starting with just 22 children aged 2 to 4, the school was built on a foundation of personalised care and a passion for early childhood development.

2005: A New Identity and Curriculum – As our community grew, so did our vision. In 2005, the school was renamed Blouberg International Academy. This year marked a pivotal shift in our academic offering as we officially adopted the British National Curriculum, laying the groundwork for the global standards we uphold today.

2007: Joining a Global Network In 2007, the school reached a major turning point by joining the prestigious SEK/IES (International Education Systems) network. Renamed IES Blouberg International School, we became part of a global family of schools, gaining access to international exchange programmes, best practices and a broader educational philosophy.

Building a Permanent Home (2009 – 2018)

2009: Establishing Our Campus – To accommodate our expanding student body, the school purchased its current, larger campus at 74 Ringwood Drive, Parklands. This move provided the space and infrastructure needed to transition from a small school to a comprehensive educational institution.

2012: Cambridge Accreditation – In 2012, IES Blouberg International School reached a significant academic milestone by becoming an officially registered Cambridge Examination Centre. This allowed us to offer internationally recognised Cambridge qualifications, opening doors for our students to top universities worldwide.

2016: Reaching Full Maturity – By 2016, the school had matured into a full-spectrum institution. We celebrated our first cohort of A-Level students writing their final examinations, and our total enrolment reached a landmark of more than 600 students.

Modernisation and Expansion (2019 – Present)

2019: Investing in Sport and Wellness – Recognising the importance of a holistic education, we unveiled a state-of-the-art sports field in 2019. The installation of a high-quality AstroTurf upgraded our main sports facility, enhancing our physical education and extra-curricular programmes.

2022: A Thriving Community – By 2022, our student body continued to expand, spanning from Nursery all the way to Year 13. This growth solidified our reputation as a school of choice in the Western Cape, known for both academic excellence and a thriving school spirit.

2024 and Beyond: The Future of Innovation – In 2024, we unveiled our most ambitious campus expansion to date. To ensure our students are prepared for the 4th Industrial Revolution, we opened:

– A dedicated Apple Lab featuring the Apple Vision Pro as a South African first!
– A cutting-edge Robotics Lab
– A large, specialised Sports and Performance Arts Hall
– A unique, expanded and collaborative Library
– A modern and engaging Sciences Wing
– An innovative and inspiring Art Studio
– A Lecture Hall for specialised and intensive career and aptitude counselling
– A Professional Canteen where students, parents and staff can order and enjoy wholesome freshly prepared food
